Airbus UK Broughton confirmed their status as champions at The Hollingsworth Group Stadium on Good Friday with a 4-2 victory over Gresford Athletic.

Goals from George Peers and skipper Stephen Tomassen in the first forty-five, Oliver Lanceley and Nathan Brown found the net in the second-half sealed the win as Dominic Deacon and Joe Chaplin got consolation goals for the away team. It was a win on the day where the JD Cymru North victors lifted the title.

It was a dominating display from the Wingmakers and could have easily scored more during the match. This was the seventh consecutive time where Bus got three points and showed why they are heading back up to the Cymru Premier.

Steve O’Shaughnessy’s team had the first chance in the fourth minute of the game. Nathan Brown whipped in a ball that found Gareth Edwards who headed just wide of the post.

A couple minutes later the Wingmakers took the lead. Brown delivered another corner that former goalkeeper of The New Saints Robbie Williams dropped as Beau Cornish was there on the rebound to score.

It was nearly two in the 12th. Cornish played a through ball to Lanceley who shot from just outside the box as the effort hit the post.

The Wingmakers were on the attack once more in the 27th minute. Brown ran in the box and hit an opportunity that curled past Gresford’s net.

Just past the half hour mark the away team had their first chance of the game. Dan Holland played a through ball to Joe Chaplin who hit an effort in the 18-yard area that went across goal and out for a goal-kick.

In the 36th, Joe Palmer had a wild strike from outside the box that went over the goal and out of the ground as Bus kept knocking for a second.

With just over six before the break Brown had successive opportunities from outside the box. The first was blocked by the Gresford defence as the second was skied over the crossbar from 20-yards outside the penalty area.

In stoppage time of the first-half Airbus finally found a second. Brown crossed in a corner kick which found Stephen Tomassen as the skipper slotted in from close range.

At the start of the second forty-five, Palmer had a shot from range which went over the crossbar.

It was three just before the hour mark, Brown crossed in a 20-yard free-kick to Lanceley who headed past Williams’ bottom-right in the box.

Eddie Maurice-Jones’ team got one back in the 65th minute. A ball got crossed into the box that found Dominic Deacon who scored from point blank range.

The three-goal lead was nearly renewed three later. Peers got on the end of a through ball and hit from 6-yards out as Williams stopped the attempt.

Brown got a fourth for the home team in the 84th minute. Substitute Callum Humphries found a great through ball that found the winger who slotted in past Williams’ bottom left in the box.

Gresford got a second consolation just before the end as Joe Chaplin scored an acrobatic effort past Lewis Dutton from just inside the 18-yard area.

Airbus UK Broughton: Lewis Dutton, Steve Tomassen, Joe Palmer, Gareth Edwards (Callum Humphries 72’), Ryan Edwards, Oliver Lanceley (Brady McGilloway 61’), George Peers, Simon Spender (Ieuan Hewitt 46’)., Owen Payne (Elliott Orton 72’), Nathan Brown, Beau Cornish (Iwan Jones 61’).

Goals: Beau Cornish 6’, Stephen Tommasen 45+1’, Oliver Lanceley 58’, Nathan Brown 86’.

Man of the match: Nathan Brown

Airbus’ no.20 was an attacking threat all match. Brown constantly created chances for the Wingmakers attackers and was rewarded with three assists throughout the encounter. A goal towards the end of the encounter was well deserved for a player that has improved throughout this season’s campaign.
