Guilsfield 0-0 Airbus UK Broughton: JD Cymru North Match Report

The final game of the season for Airbus UK Broughton has ended in unspectacular fashion, with their match away to Guilsfield limping to a 0-0 bore draw, with neither side having what it takes to cut the opposition apart in this one, despite The Wingmakers being awarded a penalty.

The hosts began the game on the front foot, asking questions of Lewis Dutton from the off, Iwan Lewis forcing the goalkeeper to pull off an impressive save after 13 minutes.

On 24 minutes, Airbus were extremely fortunate not to concede, as centre back Gaz Edwards sliced a clearance onto his own side's post, but the ball hit the outside of the sticks and went out for a corner.

Thirteen minutes later, George Peers was brought down in the box by a Guilsfield defender, who received a talking to from the referee but avoided receiving a card.

He who wins it, takes it, was the order of the day for Airbus, with George Peers stepping up to the spot, but saw his spot kick saved by goalkeeper Mike Jones, and the first-half ended at a stalemate.

Five minutes into the second 45 and the home side were pushing to take the lead, Chris Cathrall seeing his effort crash against the crossbar, just moments before Dutton was forced into a great save to deny Iwan Matthews.

The Wingmaker's shot stopped was once again the centre of attention, as he denied Jamie Hyne on 63 minutes.

A Steve Tomassen injury slowed the game down late on, and the match petered out to a classic bore draw, between two sides that looked to challenge one another for the title before Christmas.

TALKING POINTS

On the final match of the season, Airbus failed to score in the league for the first time in the campaign.

With Adam Davies, and his 30 league goals this season, goals have not been hard to come by for The Wingmakers at all; they are the top scorers in the division, having netted 85 times in their 28 matches, which is 18 more than any other side.

However, due to the injury of the forward, goals must come from elsewhere at the beginning of next season.

Jake Eyre has scored 12 goals this campaign, and Oli Lanceley 11, so they do have threats going forwards, but Airbus need to ensure that the shutout from Guilsfield does not become a regular occurrence next season, and that they get back to goalscoring ways as quickly as possible.
