AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON: TEAM OF THE SEASON: GOALKEEPER AND DEFENDERS

After such a successful season, in which Steve O'Shuaghnessy utilized a number of players, from first team veterans, to young academy graduates, a case could be made for over twenty players to enter the Wingmakers Writer Airbus UK Broughton team of the season, yet we have the difficult task of drawing it down to just eleven.

Here is the back five that have made the team...

GOALKEEPER- LEWIS DUTTON

Possibly the easiest selection on the list, given that he has played every minute of every game this season, Lewis Dutton has shown his quality time and time again this campaign.

His first half of the season saw impressive performances, yet clean sheets were hard to come by.

However, following the mid-season break, Dutton kicked on and put in even more high quality displays, keeping six clean sheets in his final nine matches, more than the entirety of the first half of the season.

RIGHT BACK: SIMON SPENDER

One of the more experienced heads in the dressing room, Simon Spender showed his quality once again this season, his natural fitness allowing him to attack and defend the right hand side with ease.

Chipping in with four assists in his league matches, Simon has proven he still has what it takes to play for a title winning team.

Whilst he was not involved in the final two matches of the season, we think that the 36 year old deserves his break and his competitor at right back, Ieuan Hewitt, has been almost as impressive as Spender this campaign, and did a fine job in his absence.

CENTER-BACK: GARETH EDWARDS

A new signing in July 2021, Gaz settled in at the centre-half position with ease, and became a solidified member of the back-line by the middle of the season.

Not just a threat to opposition attackers, Edwards also picked up four goals and three assists in 22 league matches, showing his versatility and importance to the entirety of the team.

CENTER-BACK: STEVE TOMASSEN

Accompanying Gaz is his center back partner, and Airbus captain, Steve Tomassen.

The 28 year old, Chester born defender played more than most for Airbus this season, making 26 appearances, and his seven goal involvements, alongside just one yellow card, show why he is Mr.Reliable.

Captain, leader, title lifter, legend.

LEFT-BACK: ELLIOT ORTON

The youngster signed a new contract with Airbus at the start of the season and has not looked back since, making twenty two appearances in his true break out season.

His immaculate delivery into the box and speed on the wing has given O'Shaughnessy an easy option when picking his left back for the next few seasons.
