Llangefni Town 0-3 Airbus UK Broughton: Dazzling Wingmakers extend the gap at the top

Airbus bounced back in emphatic style from their disappointing draw last weekend to trounce Llangefni Town 3-0 at Cae Bob Parry.

Three different goal scorers on the day with the first being an own goal from Jack Williams on 35 minutes earned all three points for the Bus. Twenty minutes separated Joe Palmer and Beau Cornish’s goal as they netted on the 68th and 88th minute respectively.

The victory extended the gap at the top to five points as the Bus seek promotion back to the JD Cymru Premier League

Jake Eyre stood out in the opening stages of the match as a player with a point to prove. The ex-Everton man danced around his opposition numbers in possession and off the ball proved a constant sliding threat, lurking on the shoulder of the last man.

Skipper Steve Tomassen brought out the trademark long throw for the travelling Bus contingent and it was this weapon that very nearly broke the deadlock. The ball hung in the air for what felt an age, fighting against the treacherous Anglesey wind to fall in to play. When the ball found itself in the danger area, it hit the back of Llangefni Town defender, Alun Roberts, and cannoned off the woodwork.

Eyre was back in the action on the 21st minute as he found himself in acres of space down the right. The 26-year-old controlled possession well, dropped the shoulder and beat the keeper with his effort to seemingly give the Bus a much-deserved opener. Celebrations had momentarily begun at Cae Bob Parry until the Wingmakers noticed the linesman had his flag waving to signal an offside.

Steve O'Shaughnessy’s men continued to mount attack after attack and eventually entered into the lead courtesy of a Jack Williams own goal. Star striker Adam Davies found himself out wide and whipped in a wicked cross that evaded the Airbus attackers but planted itself against the thigh of Williams who saw the ball trickle over Steve Sinclair’s net.

Llangefni’s minute of madness went from bad to worse as an ill-disciplined Iwan Jones saw red on the 36th minute for a needless off the ball kick out at Airbus defender, Gaz Edwards. The Llangefni effort to frustrate the Bus had worked for so long but two moments to forget for the Anglesey-based side in the space of 180 seconds made a tough task a near impossible one.

The Wingmakers came racing out the blocks for the second period, spurred on by the antics that had occurred past the half hour mark.

Eyre, at the third time of trying, was able to add to the Bus’ advantage in the 68th minute courtesy of a thunderbolt effort from his wand of a left foot. The ball travelled with speed hard and nestled into the bottom corner.

On loan The New Saints midfielder, Beau Cornish capped off a scintillating 90 minutes of football two minutes from time, curling a delicious effort from outside the box into the top right-hand corner of Sinclair’s goal.

That proved to be all she wrote in a match that saw the Bus go five points clear in the league table, albeit with Guilsfield having two games in hand. Should the Montgomeryshire-based side win their two extra fixtures, there would be just one point to separate the two teams.

MAN OF THE MATCH - JAKE EYRE (AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON)

The ex-Sheffield United man was breath-taking today in his movement and execution of possession.

Very few players at any level can dictate games of football so high up the pitch but today, Eyre did exactly that.

His hard work was capped off with a great goal in the second period, making it 2 goals in his last 3 games.

With Airbus' aim being to win the domestic title, Eyre will be as important as anyone in the Wingmakers XI in making that become reality. Performances like today will make it nothing more than a formality.

KEY STAT

Airbus are now undefeated in their last 12 games in the JD Cymru North, with their last defeat coming 118 days ago against Bangor City.

Impressive form for the Bus!
