OPINION: Adam Davies will continue his goal scoring form in the Cymru Premier League

Adam Davies broke the JD Cymru North goal scoring record with 10 games to go and is showing no signs of slowing down.

The twenty-five-year-old joined the Wingmakers after a torrid time at Cymru Prem side, Aberystwyth Town, where he played just 7 league games and failed to hit the net on any occasion.

Davies is a prime example that comfort and happiness reigns supreme in football and any slither of doubt at the highest level allows your mind to gobble up any hope of success.

The Shrewsbury born forward has admitted this season that he came very close to giving up on his dream of making it as a footballer.

Speaking to ‘Y CLWB PÊL-DROED’, Davies said, “This time last year, I was at the rock bottom of my football. I considered knocking it on the head because of a lack of game time and a lack of confidence.”

The decision to join Steve O'Shaughnessy’s Airbus has allowed the forward to “fall back in love with football.”

A player who was previously deemed surplus to requirements at one club now finds himself the star of the show.

Airbus currently sit 4 points clear with a game in hand in the JD Cymru North and baring a monumental drop in form, look destined to return to the topflight of Welsh domestic football after a two-year absence.

Although the level of opponent may be superior, the knack of being in the right place at the right time is a handy bug to have and the Airbus man has displayed that in abundance since his move.

Davies’ goals have been a gigantic reason why the Bus have been so successful this term and there is no reason why his goal scoring form should dry up in the Prem.

As football fans, it becomes abundantly clear when a special talent is plying their trade in front of your very eyes, and this is exactly the case when Davies takes the to pitch.

Very few players, if any, at this level can embarrass defenders with so much ease like the ex- Aberystwyth man does. The first touch, the drop of the shoulder, the first-time finishing. Lethal.

Above all that listed, the greatest asset of the forwards game has to be his off the ball movement. More than often, the Bus line up with an interchanging forward line with Davies occupied by the two opposition central defenders. The mere thought of being the sole thought of two tall, aggressive Cymru North centre halves could psychologically beat many a forward before the referee’s whistle is blown for kick off, but Davies flourishes in playing off the shoulder, beating the off-side trap and bringing teammates in to play.

It's that very movement that is missed on highlight reels. There has clearly been a period of self-education in watching the game’s best strikers terrorise defenders and that homework hasn’t half paid off this term.

Declan McManus, the top scorer in the Cymru Premier League, has netted 24 goals for The New Saints this term and has a very similar style of play to Adam Davies. Both are not classed as nippy strikers but more so terrific poachers. Foxes in the box who sniff out danger, position themselves in space and score for fun.

Scoring quickly becomes a habit and that rhythm of finding the back of the net appears so natural to Davies that it would be a gigantic shock if he were to freeze in front of goal next season.

I’ve watched many a non-league and low-level Football League striker over the last decade, and I can assure you with absolute confidence that Davies is right up there as one of the most gifted of them all.

The Cymru Prem is his oyster and I expect him to shine bright as he has this term.
