Player Profile: Simon Spender

Simon Spender signed for Airbus in the summer, with the club fighting off numerous suitors to pen the full-back to a deal following his decision to leave The New Saints.

Spends as he is often referred to by his teammates, has represented Wales at youth level, running out 6 times for the U’21 side between the years of 2004 and 2008.

The Mold-born right back started his career with Wrexham and notched up an impressive 110 games for the club during a five-season strong spell (2004-09)

The ex-TNS man then moved over the boarder to ply his trade at then Blue Square Premier side, Barrow.

Spends played 99 games for the Cumbrian side, winning the FA Trophy at Wembley, and managed to make the most appearances for the club of any player that season.

Despite being offered a new deal, Spender turned it down and moved to The New Saints, where over a 10-year spell, he won 6 league titles, 4 Welsh Cups and 4 Welsh League Cups.

He was inducted into the Welsh Premier League Best XI three times during his decade spell at Park Hall (2014–15, 2015–16 and 2016–17).

Spends is an invaluable member of the Bus’ XI and has showcased a tremendous level of output this season, making 22 appearances, and assisting 5 goals.

His performances have also been recognised on two occasions with the Man of the Match award.
