Holyhead Hotspur 1-2 Airbus UK Broughton: Wingmakers Pass Difficult Test In Anglesey

The Wingmakers collected three points in Anglesey after a tricky encounter against ten-man Holyhead Hotspur.

The Hotspurs took the lead in the first half through Jay Gibbs. Gibbs was later sent off in opening forty-five after a foul on Adam Davies.

Oliver Lanceley and Ryan Edwards scored goals just four minutes apart in the second half to seal the win for Airbus.

After a quiet opening ten minutes, Liam Morris had a shot for the Hotspurs from 25-yards out that went over the crossbar as the no.9 used the wind to his advantage.

In the 15th minute Bus had their first opportunity of the game, Simon Spender whipped in a ball that found Jake Eyre in the box who hit just wide of the post.

Five minutes on, Spender crossed in another ball that found Adam Davies, Davies headed straight at Alex Lynch.

Moments later, Holyhead were up the other end of the pitch as Robert Jones got around Lewis Dutton but missed an open goal.

Hotspur took the lead in the 25th minute, Jay Gibbs scored a curling effort past Dutton’s right from outside the box.

Three on, The New Saints loanee Beau Cornish shot just wide of the home side’s net.

In the 36th minute, Holyhead went down to ten men as Jay Gibbs got sent off for a foul from behind on Adam Davies.

A couple minute’s later, the host’s top scorer Morris had a shot for the home team from outside the 18-yard that went off target.

On the 40th, Spender put in a ball that found Davies who shot off target.

Just before half-time, Jake Eyre had a chance that blasted over the goal.

In the second forty-five, Beau Cornish had an opportunity from outside the box that drifted wide.

In the 52nd minute Steve O’Shaughnessy’s team drew level. Half-time substitute George Peers played a beautiful through ball to Oliver Lanceley who slotted the chance past Lynch.

Four minutes on the Bus took the lead, Ryan Edwards had a deflected shot in the box that managed to find the back of the net.

Past the hour mark, Cornish delivered a fantastic ball from corner, that forced Lynch to palm it over.

In the 66th minute, Eyre had an attempt in the box that went wide of the post as the Wingmakers went looking for a third.

Three after, Peers hit a free kick from just outside the penalty area that went straight into the gloves of Lynch who collected.

In the 86th minute, second replacement Nathan Brown had a shot from outside the box that went over the crossbar.

The final attempt of the game came in the second minute of stoppage time when the final replacement Owen Payne had a fine effort at goal that was met by a great save from Lynch.

Steve O’Shaughnessy’s side will now go on to play 15th place Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant next Saturday.

Man of the Match: Ryan Edwards: The midfielder was the difference maker in the match where he created chances constantly. Edwards got a well deserved winner and will be crucial in the coming games if Airbus are going to win the title.
